Statistics on pistachio production in the world and comparison pistachio shell with other countries
According to the latest data published by the World Food Organization, the amount of pistachio production in the world in 1997 was 331,403 tons. Global pistachio production in 1997 decreased by about 23% compared to the previous year and increased by about 45% compared to the base year (1988).
Among the countries of the world, ten countries each produced more than 250 tons of pistachios in 1997, which ranks first among Iran with a production of about 112 thousand tons. Iran alone produces about 34% of the world's pistachios. After Iran, the United States is the second largest producer of pistachios in the world with a production of 82,000 tons. Turkey ranks third in the world with 60,000 tons of pistachios.
Among the major pistachio producing countries in the world, the amount of production in 1997 compared to the previous year in the United States, Syria, Greece, Italy and Tunisia has increased and decreased in Iran. In other countries the amount of production does not change.
